Reverse osmosis systems
With more than 40 years of experience, Mienis Waterzuivering B.V. is the oldest supplier of reverse osmosis systems in the Netherlands. They design, build and install all the systems themselves so that they can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of each customer.
In the case of membrane filtration, water is forced through a membrane. A wide variety of membranes with different levels of permeability are available as explained below.
There are three different types of membrane system to choose from depending on the water to be treated (e.g. source water, mains water or sea water) and the water quality required (e.g. drinking water, process water or demineralised water):
|Reverse osmosis (RO)||:||With reverse osmosis, also known as desalination, all the salts are removed. In the process, not only sodium chloride (common table salt) is removed but also substances such as calcium, magnesium, iron and silica. For many countries that lie on the sea, this is an essential way of ensuring a sufficient supply of clean drinking water.|
|Ultra-Filtration (UF)||:||An effective method of water treatment if you want to keep the minerals (salts) in the water and remove undissolved components such as humus acids, bacteria and the majority of viruses|
|Nano-Filtration (NF)||:||The same as UF but with this method, all viruses are removed along with some of the mineral salts.|
Membrane filtration used to be an expensive form of technology whereas now it is possible to produce pure water for less than € 0.25/m³.
