Taking responsibility: Hortus Supplies International offsets its 2024 CO₂ Emissions

Over the last 20 years, Hortus Supplies has grown into a global operation with over 30 professionals serving clients in more than 25 countries. From flower growers and vegetable producers to tree farms, the company offers a full spectrum of high-quality horticultural products and smart, sustainable solutions. At the heart of its mission is a clear goal: support growers worldwide with tools that boost efficiency, promote sustainability, and future-proof production. Whether through tailored crop care, automation, or environmentally responsible options, Hortus Supplies doesn’t just supply products – it provides solutions.

Sustainability has become a part of who we are. We don’t just see it as a buzzword but as a responsibility. Towards our customers,, our partners, and the planet we all depend on. That’s why in 2024 we took an important step: our entire CO₂ footprint for the year has been fully offset. Verified by DGB Group, we chose to support the Hungera Cookstoves Project in Kenya, a program that delivers immediate climate impact while improving daily life for local communities.

Why we chose to compensate

As Richard explains: “We want to reduce our impact wherever possible. But the reality is, our operations cannot be fully carbon neutral. Offsetting all emissions is our way of taking responsibility today, while we continue to find ways to reduce our footprint tomorrow.”

The Hungera Cookstoves Project replaces traditional cooking methods with energy-efficient stoves. These stoves use less fuel, emit less harmful smoke, and help families in Kenya live healthier lives. For us, it was the perfect way to combine climate responsibility with social impact.

More than just carbon

Sustainability at Hortus goes beyond compensation of our CO₂ Emissioncaused by our company.

This way we know they can reduce the use of other sources for a more sustainable”

We have also taken practical steps to reduce our own footprint:

• 134 solar panels now power the Dutch office and electric vehicles.
• Continuous carbon footprint monitoring informs further reduction efforts.
• An expanding portfolio of organic and natural crop care products helps growers transition to more sustainable practices.
• Responsible logistics and supply chain improvements reduce emissions and increase efficiency.

Supporting communities and charitries worldwide

Sustainability is not just about the environment for Hortus Supplies. We want to give back to communities worldwide. From supporting charities in Ethiopia, Vietnam and Colombia to backing local clubs in the Netherlands, we believe success should always be shared. With small donations we can achieve great impacts on all kind of people.

Offsetting our CO₂ emissions for 2024 is one milestone in he journey. We know there is more to do. By continuing to reduce where possible, compensate where needed, and source sustainable solutions for growers worldwide, we aim to make a lasting difference – for the planet, for products, and for people.
